Walter Hagen Jr Series III 5 Club Set Approx. 56"- 60" Tall LEFT HAND Approx. sizing: 56"- 60" Tall About Walter Hagen: Now being sold by Dick's Sporting Goods (a popular American-based sporting goods company), Walter Hagen golf clubs are named after one of history's truly legendary golfers. "The Haig" had a definite swagger and a reputation for "living large," but during his career he had 44 Tour victories, and 11 of them were majors. Today, the company bearing his name manufactures value-priced drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, putters and wedges, along with complete sets of clubs. The price is certainly right. But do these golf clubs deliver respectable performance? Well, what's true in many aspects of life is also true in golf. You often get what you pay for. In this case, the low price of the clubs is almost too good to be true, and it sends a clear signal regarding their quality. This particular set of golf clubs costs less than $150 - including the bag. But a top quality golf bag alone costs more than $150. Good drivers easily average around $300, woods and hybrids around $200 each, and a good set of irons will probably run you between $500 and $800 or more. Add a good putter at an average of around $150 and all of a sudden you've spent at least $1500 or $1600. This set of golf clubs costs about 10% of that total. So, Walter Hagen golf clubs are some of the cheaper clubs you can buy. But does that make them bad? Would they be a poor choice for a club purchase? Not necessarily. Although no self-respecting golf pro would use them, Walter Hagen golf clubs can actually be a good choice for beginners. When you're first learning to play golf, there isn't much point in investing thousands of dollars in your equipment. At that skill level, any clubs will work as long as they aren't absolutely terrible. Instead of buying the best equipment available, consider spending your time and money on plenty of practice and lessons to improve your game. If you buy a cheap set of Walter Hagen golf clubs, you can take them out on the range and practice until you actually wear them out without feeling guilty. Your game will improve without costing you thousands of bucks. Then, when you're certain you want to continue playing, you've grooved your swing into something respectable and you've lowered your handicap a bit, you can upgrade to a better, more expensive set of clubs. If you're not a beginner, I'd suggest staying away from Walter Hagen golf clubs even if your equipment budget is extremely low. Although their price is great for a new set of clubs, personally I think experienced golfers would do better with a pre-owned set of higher quality clubs. For example, you can find high quality used golf clubs for sale on eBay, Amazon, Edwin Watts, Golf Galaxy, callawaygolfpreowned.com, tgw.com (The Golf Warehouse) and several other sites on the net. For experienced golfers, spending a couple of hundred on a set of used PINGs (for example) might be a better investment than spending even less on a brand-new set of Walter Hagen golf clubs. The Bottom Line : Whether Walter Hagen golf clubs are for you depends on your skill level and your budget. If you're new to the game, they could be a good choice for learning how to play inexpensively. If you've been golfing for a while, your money might be spent more wisely on a higher quality set of used golf clubs for sale.
