Bud Hillerich made his first Louisville Slugger. Quickly becoming the best-selling bat in the world, the Louisville Slugger, to this day, is synonymous with baseball. In the late 1800’s, baseball in America was booming at a time when the Boston Red Sox were still known as the Boston Red Stockings. Golf had also washed up on American shores. In 1893, the first 18-hole course was built in Wheaton, IL, with the United States Golf Association being formed a year later. When Frank Bradsby joined the business in 1911, he brought with him a love of golf and a boundless desire to sell, sell, sell. By 1916, the Hillerich & Bradby Company produced its first H&B golf club. Nearly two decades later, Hillerich & Bradsby named their professional line of clubs PowerBilt and it’s the name the company still uses to this day. PowerBilt clubs have been in hands of many golfers as they made their final putt to win a championship title. In 1932, (prior to the PowerBilt branding) Olin Dutra used an early version of a PowerBilt club to win the PGA Championship and again two years later to win the US Open. In 1964, Bobby Nichols won the PGA Championship and in 1967 Gay Brewer won the coveted green jacket at the Masters with his PowerBilts. Charles Coody also won The Masters in 1971 while Fuzzy Zoeller took the same title in 1979. Larry Mize used his PowerBilts to win in 1987. Throughout the years, many players on the LPGA tour have also made PowerBilts their club of choice.
