Antique Vintage Hickory Shaft Smooth Face Lofter Scotland

This item is a 38" right-handed  hickory shafted iron. It is an early smooth face  pre Lofter. 41* loft and a B 4 swingweight. Markings on the back are very rubbed but I believe it was made by D Anderson & Sons Scotland. It has what might be an L on the back for Ladies but I can't see the bottom part of and L so it might just be an I. Men's length and very stiff shaft. Concentric back weighting with more weight and a wider sole behind the sweetspot. This style makes for a good player.  Th e head is clean and not all rusted but does have an even patina. It does have the expected play nicks and dings.  Please look at the many zoom pictures to get a better idea of condition. The shaft is an old  hickory. It is straight , I see no cracks and it has some play at the hosel. All hickory shafted clubs should be re-set prior to play. The grip is an old long leather wrap that is in poor vintage condition.  Put it in your gutty play set.
If you are considering playing with this club, while I see no issues with this hickory shaft (other than those mentioned above), I suggest that whipping be added just above the hosel to help prevent breakage. These hickory shafts often have hidden defects and are liable to break at any time. I do not guarantee hickory shafts against breakage when put into play. Never hit an old hickory shafted club off a driving range mat. Never hit an old hickory shafted wood with a hard range ball. Shipping in the US is calculated and based on a 3 -pound  box. This item shipped UPS Ground. For those of you that never ship but only receive items, the further you are from me in NC the more shipping will be. That is the way the carriers charge. On top of that, eBay and takes almost 15% of what I receive for shipping (out of $10 I receive $8.50) and I would like to break even. eBay collects sales tax for many states. They charge me 15% for that service and I never see that money.
